Is there any particular tank shape thats best for discus? I'm currently thinking about getting a tank thats 120x45x60 (LxWxH), would a longer and less high tank be better for discus (more swimming room) than a tall tank?

taller is generally better

If I want to keep a fully planted tank with a small group of Discus (3-5), a shoal of 12 rummy nose tetras, 2-3 apistos or rams, 4-6 small cories and 3-4 ottos what sort of tank size am I looking at? Would 50-55 gallons be enough (they don't seem to use litres over here in North America) or do I need to go bigger?

everyone uses gallons I think.

In terms of surface area, wider is generally better than higher, but if you can, go for 4x2x2.

but 4x1.5x2 is a fairly standard size, so thats good, too.

The general rule is 1 discus per 10G or water.

a 4X2X2 would be nice.
