Hi guys,

i have a friend of mine's birthday coming up and i want to buy him a fish keeping basics book...this guy really struggles....even with goldfish!!!

So my birthday present to him will be me visiting his tank and offering some helpful tips, buut i would like to know of a good all round basics book that i can buy him.

can anyone suggest something for me? i have to be able to purchase it pretty quick smart in sydney (preferable close the "the shire").

If he wants to keep Discus Matt Jack Wattley has a book, Discus Keeping for Beginners. It's a good book and spells it out pretty simply.

If you are looking for a basic fish keeping book, not a discus book. Here is one:

The Complete Idiot's Guide to Freshwater Aquariums
Author: Mike Wickham


I'm not trying to call your friend an idiot or something like that. The title maybe an inside joke you can share with him. LOL

it is for basic fish for now definately.... no discus for quiet a while me thinks.

i'll check out the complete idiots guide first. thanks for the idea

Here is another starter book:
The Simple Guide to Fresh Water Aquariums
by David E. Boruchowitz

You can get it really cheap, about $12 USD.
