tank use after ich

I have a tank that had white spot in, fortunately/unfortuately I had only a couple of fish in it. I ended up loosing the fish, by the time I realised it was too late, anyway thats a different story. But my question is what is the best way to clean the tank out for use again. I had a sponge filter and a couple of pieces of java fern in it. I did put some medication in the tank, would this have killed any residual parasites, should I toss the fern/sponges, how do I make sure its gone.

Throw in heaps of salt, turn up your heater to maximum and let it sit there for 2 weeks. This is assuming of course you have no fish in the tank
