Hi,
i have aquired a 500ltr tank of a mate and want to set it up as a discus planted tank. i dont want to use co2 and want to no what wattage would i need to grow healthy plants in this size tank. 2.5w per g would that be ok. He currently has 4 x 30w globes which is not giving enough watts. Can you get 60w or higher globes for standard lights????. I was thinking about using sand as a base. Is fertiliser soil a must or not. Whats everyone opinion. Waht would they do if it was there tank. Also he is currently running 2 x 1000ltr aqua one cannister would this be good enough for discus or would i need to buy a bigger cannister of some sort.
Cheers axl

Sounds ok,The lighting at 2.5WPG will be fine even 2wpg.
You can't put a 60watt globe in a 30watt ballast.
Sand is fine,You will need to add some sort of substrate fert.
The filters IMO are fine.
If it was my tank and spending your money you will work lots and lots of overtime :)
I think i cover it all.
