I was just wondering what people think about UV light. Is it something that is worthwhile to spend the money? Does it kill all the bad bacteria and parasite like flukes?

UVs are just about essential for discus. I have them on every discus and angel tank. They don't perform miracles, but they do make your water crystal clear by removing free floating algae in the water.

They also kill free floating bacteria and pathogens in the water.

They don't kill algae growing on plants, and they don't kill white spot or gill flukes that are attached to the host fish, but they will kill flukes and white spot when they are in the free swimming stage.

Be sure to get one large enough for your tank :P

thank you ladyred. i was reading some of the old posts about UV on this forum. i don't want to get one that will flood my house from reading those posts. perhaps i will ask one of the sponsors here to recommend a good safe one.

I use the Pondmaster UVs on my tanks, good solid stuff.
The DeBarry and Pentair have good reputations as well, but cost a few more $$$.
