Important Warning

Non Australian Standards Cylinders

It has been discovered that Non Australian Standard C02 Cylinders are being sold into the Australian market.
They are easily recognizable, they are aluminium in colour, have USA or Asian stamping codes and have a USA valve.

As these cylinders are not compliant with the Australian standards they are illegal to sell or use.

The valve will not work safely with Australian compliant accessories.
Incorrect fitting of Australian compliant accessories to these imported cylinders, may cause serious injury.

Australian cylinders are green/grey in colour and have Australian stampings.
Importantly they have Australian Work Cover and Australian Standard approvals. Both these points ensure that your product has been deemed safe to use.

Filling stations are required to check C02 cylinders prior to filling to ensure that they are safe to fill. It is illegal to fill non compliant cylinders.

Hey Proteus

You should run a similar post on all of the Non compliant Light setups that are sold in Australia

Already been done several times.

It must be said however that things have picked up in regards to lights over the past 6-12 months.

This warning was made as it is apparent a bunch of cheap, non-approved Taiwanese cylinders are now being offered for sale locally, by an Australian retailer, therefore making it a legal issue. (if you import them yourself, caveat emptor, you take the risk).

The particular brand in question has been the highlight of many discussions on U.S. aquarium forums as to there poor construction, and issues of the cylinder head blowing off, amongst many other issues. (deformed sides, due to weakness in materials etc etc)

Had an interesting conversation with someone in the industry today, and it seems that Workcover have been on a bit of a mission of late confiscating hundreds upon hundreds of grey import aluminium C02 cylinders from shops (mainly home brew businesses). The scary part is the minimum $10,000 fine for just carrying them, then the possible $50,000 fine if caught selling them.

OUCH
