These are the fish that were hand picked by the discus judge from farms in Malaysia. Note that NONE of the fish have been hormoned or colour fed in any way to increase the colour. This is terribly important if you are looking for good breeding stock. Hormones will adversly affect their ability to breed. You need to start with clean stock.

Feeding tetra bits or any other colour enhancing food will intensify the red colour in both the body and eye of the fish.

If you're wanting to breed albino fry, then what you need is an intermediate albino, like the one pictured. Whilst not albino itself, it carries the albino gene from one of it's parents, and bred to another intermediate or to an albino, will give you a percentage of pure albino fry.

Breeding pure albino to albino is not to be recommended. They inherit the albino gene from both parents which results in weakened fry and they die within about 6 months.

That's a fantastic range of fish. For anyone looking to breed quality fry, this is where you should start.

Just wondering what the difference is between
a) penang eruption
b) super anakonda
c: giant anakonda.

Even better, if its not too much trouble, could you post up picks of each type that is in quarantine at the moment

Thanks

madaboutfish
Tue Dec 12, 2006, 06:28 AM
Hi,

Which anakonda is in the 1st picture? Super or Giant

Thanks

Nick

Merrilyn
Tue Dec 12, 2006, 10:50 AM
I'll try to explain some of the differences.

Fish in the first picture is a Super Anaconda. They have small spots with striations on the dorsal fin and spots on the gill plates.

Giant Anaconda (not pictured) has similar markings, but carries the giant gene. These fish are capable of growing to 20 cm with proper care.

Twinkle Spots have circles on the dorsal fin.

Royal Semillion have a more diagonal shape spot, rather than a round spot.

Solomon Diamonds have short striations above the lateral line, and spots below the lateral line.

The variations are slight, but they are there if you look closely.

Update.

Fish that are ordered will be arriving next week, more than likely on Tuesday 19th.

We are only getting in the fish that people order, as there are very limited stocks, so there will be very few "extras" so to speak.
I would like to see all final orders in by this sunday 17th December.
You will be contacted shortly if you have made and order.

Cheers and thanks!

Hi i am confused here i thought all fish were yours in the quarrantine room and would be going to your shop upon release and then see this post that your only getting whats on order into shop where do the rest go.
sorry for sounding a bit odd but i am loost if a shipment is brought over and come from quarrantine shouldnt the fish have a place to go.
Maybe i havent read right ror read the wrong way.
Oh well great looking fish still

i phoned Bec before she said there are other buyers/aquariums getting fish too in shippment one but she confirmed that all discus in shippment two belong to her. it is difficult to order from pictures when you can't pick a particular one that you like so it would be great to see shipment two pictures and choose from there.

bec, are pictures of shipment two available yet?
