Here is my new baby discus. The only thing I know is that it was labelled a "blue snakeskin" Even thought it is young can anyone tell me from the three pictures below what strain it is or will be??

Hi,

I would say that little guy is a Blue Turq or even a Cobolt, both 9 Bar fish ie: not a snake skin. Snake skins generally have around 18 bars. Nice little fish :D

Now I'm confused :? I thought most snakeskin were 14 bar ? some 9 ? I've seen some that were around 18 but most have been around 14 ?

Also face markings are not fine enough.

Hi,

Sorry for the confusion  14 bars and up is SS, some of the newer strains of SS have a higher bar count.

Cheers,

what about 9 bar snakeskins ?

Hiya Samir,

I always thought a 9 bar snake was a 9 bar throw back from from 2 snake (14 - 18 bar) parents ? Although I could be totaly wrong  When you think about it, it's a complete oxymoron really :ug

Cheers,

Thanks everyone for the reply. So most of you say a Cobalt Blue, may I ask what to look for when assuming it is a Cobalt Blue??

I am learning about Discus strains and would love to know how you know this.

Thanks for the comment about nice fish. I think so too. Very friendly little fish and always begging for food too.

I would love to get it a friend but will have to wait till Feb when they are 2 for 1 again. Just to expensive here and not readily available either.
