Heating for Garage Tank
Hey guys,
I'm in the process of turning my garage into a fish room
So far it's got a 210L tank cycling.
I'd like to maintain the temp at 28 or 30 degrees depending on tank.
As u know the temp drops to near 0 degrees during Melbourne Winter.
So for a 210L, what wattage is enough?
I have 300Watt at the moment running, is that enough?
Regards,
Jim

Normarlly, 3 to 5 w per g is good enough. I think you will have a tough time in the Winter since the difference maybe too much for the heater to keep up. Mostly, these heaters are designed to heat up the water few degrees above the room temp. If you are talking about 30 degrees of difference, I'd worried about the heat loss rate over what the heaters can provide.
By the way, since you are totally depend on the heater, I would go for two heaters instead of one for sure.
If you are going to have multiple tanks in the garage, you may want to invest a heater that can heat up the whole room so the temp difference is not too much for your tank heaters.

Painting my tanks has made a considerable difference on one of my systems, the temp is far more constant and doesn't vary any more than half a degree. I used to use polystyrene and still do on one system until a mate told me to paint them as it was better insulation. I didn't believe it could be better than styrene but do now, the system that still has styrene varies far more after water changes and doesn't reach my desired temp' at this time of year.

Two heaters is the way to go! I also have bubble wrap stuck to three sides of my tanks that I have in the garage. It makes a difference!
