I'm currently running a cannister that has:
    a) Ceramic noodles & Coarse Sponge
    b) Seachem Matrix & Medium Sponge
    c) volcanic clay & Wool
    d) activated carbon & Wool.
This unit does a great job but i've made it so each tray is pretty chockers with media too.

    The other cannister is running:
    a) Ceramic Noodles
    b) Eheim Pro
    c) Wool
This one also does a pretty nice job of cleaning that water. Again, all the tray pretty well packed to the brim.

Forgot to mention..i also have a small cannister that i have been running just coarse sponge, noodles, wool.

I've also found that this is a pretty good combo, but you really need to be pretty liberal on the wool in the final stage of filtration.
