    eheim cannister diagnostic

    I was putting some new material in my eheim cannister filter and (besides a big messup that resulted in mucho spilled water) I've been unable to get the siphone going since. It will start up, the fan will go into overdrive, then poop out, and start up again a few minutes later.

    Is there an old thread here or a web site with a diagnostic check that I can do to go through reason this might be?

    Thanks, guys.

    Well, I have a little powerhead pump which I attach to the intake of the e-heim & pump water into the canister - leave the outlet open of course - & this dispels any air pockets.
    You should check to see if you have:
    * got grit in the impeller cavity.
    * damaged the pump by operating it without water - overheating.
    * snapped your ceramic spindle.

    My e-heim has a basket for the filter medium - very handy. Make sure you have a fine filter pad ontop of the ceramic media & this should stop dirt and grit getting into the impeller cavity.

    Or...take it back to the supplier for advice.
