Do you think this would be an adequte lighting system for a planted 4ft tank ??
Obviously i would need to get a 6500k bulb for it.

since you are thinking of getting that unit..
have you considered shop installation versions?
http://cromptonlighting.com/fittings...ase_database=1
they look pretty much identical
and since you have to replace the bulb n e way.
The above unit only cost me around $120. comes with ballast, bulb and transformer. All ready tobe plugged in.
the unit is 150w right?
finding a 150w twin plug halogen in 6500k is a bit of a pain.
well, i havent been able to n e way.
I use 10000k on mine..
Good luck.
Cheers,
Eric

MH will cover a 2x2ft area.
So depending on what plants you have, you'd probably have to go with 2x150's.

I have a 5 foot halide on my 6 foot planted tank which cost me a good $700., and after having that I wouldn't go anything less, especially for a planted tank.
