can i use shop fitting type metal halides on my tank?

    Im currently looking at this

    http://www.cromptonlighting.com/fitt...ase_database=1

it seems identical to the ones used for aqua. the only thing im not sure about is the bulb or the ventilation needed.

The bulb can be changed in to an aquarium type right?
has anyone contemplated this b4 for their planted tank?

    Thanks in advance.

I was thinking about it for salt water but then you have too change ballasts too use a aquarium bulb...

You want a spectrum around 6000-8000k closer too 6 the better.. Find out what bulbs the come with or what you can use with it and see if it comes close too that spectrum..

This is exactly what we have done on our 6x2x2 tank.

Essentially the light is generated only by the bulb - this is the most important thing to get right, what you mount it in after that is entirely up to you.

I will try and hunt up info that we have, in the meantime have a look at 'Some of our Discus' in the Photo Album forum to see the effect. Halides are sustaining the plant growth with no additives whatsoever (CO2, fertilizer) just normal substrate we have had for years.

Do you know what more you want?
