To breed or not to breed...

I purchased these as a breeding pair some time back, as part of a package deal for a used tank I was buying. In the time I have had them (6 months) they have been in a crowded tank and understandably not demonstrated breeding activities as yet (then again, neither have the pair which I have seen proven to wrigglers in my community tank).

They do tend to stick close together similar to my other pair.

    Now for the questions:

Do they look like a male and female? I have not seen tubes and am still unfamiliar with the respective other sexual traits.

Do they look worthwhile breeding? I suspect their shape could be better, but otherwise they seem to me to be reasonable fish.

Depending on the answers, when I clean out the four foot tank I might put a divider in and see how my two pair go once they have a place to themselves.

    Cheers,
    Scott

You'll never pick male and female from pics, until recently the king of my community tank was a female.

But I'd recon if they are a pair then they'd make some good looking young. Only one way to know for sure.

Not that I'd know much - this is my pair, two wild cross somethings (Turks maybe?)

Here ya go BDA. Took a couple of water changes to get them to co-operate.

    I think this is him...

And i think this is her...

I have read you should let then spawn a couple of times in a community tank to properly bond before separating for breeding. So i guess they'll be moving to the six footer to prove themselves before the privacy of their own breeding tank.

    Cheers,
    Scott
