2010 - 2 of my tanks
hi fishfolk - just a couple of pics -
i got a 3ft tank in december, these are pics of the tank day 5 and day 45. all running very nicely, changed the filtration from the little internal to an eheim cannister 2217. i've trimmed the ambulia and hygrophilia several times, and am in love with the tiger lotus - i don't know its taxonomy, but it grows plantlets from the crown of each leaf - very cool.
stocking:
1 pr breeding rams (they have their second batch of wrigglers hatched today)
9 black phantoms
7 cardinals
3 green laser corys
1 long-finned plec
6 three-inch sturisoma panamense
and the other pic is my 6 footer, nothing much has changed in there, stocking is:
5 juvie p.altum
1 pr apistogramma macmasterii
1 pr bolivian rams
7 sterbai corys
15 rosy tetras
40 ember tetras
5 adult sturisoma panamense

They look great. Where did you get your lotus? I'm having trouble finding any here.
What substrate are you using?

thanks, swampy. i buy plants wherever i see them - and i always buy the smallest ones and grow them out. my lotus now are all self-propagating, so i haven't bought any for years, but there are a lot of good aquarium shops here (sydney) that sell them - maybe contact some to arrange posting them to you? a bit more expensive, but at least you'd have them!
substrate is normal gravel in the 6 ft, and i use under-gravel fertiliser tabs - both the swords and lotus are predominantly root-feeders. the 3 ft and my other 2 ft breeding tank are ada amazonia soil, which is pretty much heaven for growing anything at all, and breeding any soft-water fish.

Tri-Coloured Lotus' are not all that common. I have one and its getting plantlets atm. It was given to me as a gift. I have never actually spotted one in an LFS.
Common Red Tiger Lotus' cost a fortune in LFS. I dread to think what a Tri would cost.
I don't get drunk I get AWESOME!!!
