    Angelfish Pairing Confusion

    Hi

I recently had an angel pair who bred only once. In my tank I have 2 males and 1 female (1 pair). However, after the first spawn, the female seemed to hang around the other male more than its mate - causing the mate to fight the other male etc.
I thought angels form pairs for life - was the female trying to pair up with the other male?
A few weeks after, the female has died - leaving behind 2 males - 1 real mate and 1 other. What is going to happen to my male who actually spawned with her - will he find another mate?

Thanks, hope it all made sense

angelfish are not exclusive. they do have a strong pair bond, but if a better option comes along, they'll take it. in your case, the 'other' male may have grown larger or started displaying alpha status, in which case the female would have started courting his attention. remember, all she wants is the best possible father for her babies. and yes, your male will take a new mate. i'd buy a bunch of young fish and let them pair up again.
