Worried - What is this
Over the last 24hrs or so, this discus has developed a sore on the side of it's body. He's sharing a QT tank with my new wild caught Heckels (set up 29.03.08). Filter was seeded with media from a fully cycled tank and my water tests tell me this tank has now fully cycled as well. None of the fish are in QT because they were sick, but because Heckels were new purchases & I decided to move this discus in with them.
I have no other spare tank I can move him to, so he has to stay in with the Heckels. Tank is bare bottom, 100L & I change 10% water daily.
The pictures are blurry, but hope you get the idea. How can I treat this. I am worried that my Heckles will be next.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Admin - I have no idea why this thread is showing 3 times - I guessed I pressed the submit button more than once (without knowing). Are you able to delete the extra 2 posts pls.
Anyway, I hope someone can help out with advice.

It's pretty hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like a scrape of some kind.
Is it possible the little guy scraped himself against the driftwood or something else in the tank.
Add some salt to the water (1 heap teaspoon per 40 lts) and just keep an eye on him.
If it begins to turn red around the edges, let us know.

Sorry, I know the pictures were pretty bad. There is driftwood in there & he could have scraped himself. Ordinary table salt? I'll add some now.
Tank is 100 litres & I change 10% daily. After each water change, do I add just a little salt to keep the salt level constant, or is this a 24hr treatment thing.
Thanks heaps for the advice.

Just add enough to maintain the salt level in the change water.
Try to get hold of cooking salt. Table salt has a filler in there to make it flow thru the salt shaker. Cooking salt or rock salt is the stuff you want.

oh, I should have waited. The table salt is already in there. Is it a problem?

Nope, the filler is usually corn flour, so no big deal. If it forms a frothy scum on the water, try to scoop it out.
Get some cooking salt tomorrow, and then do a big water change adding the cooking salt. The table salt will eventually vanish with the water changes.

Thanks - I've already been to my local Woollies & back, so I now have the cooking salt. I'll watch out for the froth & in the morning will do a big water change.
Thanks for the prompt help.

Hi TW,
Im glad that he is all better, he is a real cutie. I would like to take a guess and say he may be a rose red discus.
