    Newbie needs help! Unsure what to do

    Hello All...My name is Mary. We have 140 gal community tank. A few days ago, my Discus acted funny. Red sore, next day white cotton stuff.Go to our LFS w/picture. I want to make sure prior to treating.

    1. Read here that Melafix and Pimafix won't work w/Discus. This is what the guy sold me.
    2. Should I step up the water changes.{do 25-40% twice a week.}
    3. Nitrates are high. Noticed on Melafix and Pimafix that you don't change the water for 7 days. Does this apply to other treatments?

    We've had the tank for 3 yrs.
    Sorry if this has been addressed...I tried via a search to find the topic.

    Not a great picture. Today the fin is nearly gone.

    Thank You very Much! I look forward to learning on Discus Forum!

    you should change water to get the nitrates down for starters. daily 50% for around 4-5 days will help. you might want to use a uv in your tank in the future and add some seachem or eheim media to your filter.

    waterlife myxazin or aquaricycline are the two medications available at your lfs that are more suited to your problem.

    Thank You for taking the time to answer! We've been really trying to get the tank back to normal.
