Recycling at 6ft tank with brown algea problems???

    Hi,
Im in the process of recycling my 280ltr tank which is going to be a planted discus tank. There is only 1.7 wpg of light at the moment and im adding pure ammonia to the tank to feed the bacteria. My problem is that there is brown stuff building up on the glass and sand which is making it look very ugly. It comes off very easy when you scrub it but it tends to build up very quickly again and there is a light brown film on the top of the water. Is the ammonia causing this. Any thoughts on this and should it go away once my tank is fully cycled and there is no ammonia in there?? sorry about the long post. Cheers Axl

its proably diatoms, the ammonia wont be helping it, you usually get it in low light tanks (1-1.5w/g).

once the cycle is done it will ease, bristlenoses will make short work of it.
