Algae build up
does anyone get a lot of algea growing beneath the substrate?
i have very fine white substrate - not crushed coral -and find that i get a fair build up below the substrate level on the glass.
unfortunately the bn i bought is shite scared and doesn't get round the tank much - even so he wouldn't be able to get below the substrate.
It develops their first before elsewhere in the tank
Maybe it just more noticeable due to the white as other tanks with darker mediums don't seem to get it, or appear to get it??

I use either a pot scrubber or the magnetic glass cleaner to get below the substrate to clean the glass. As for your pleco, if he has plenty of rock work to hide in, you'll rarely see him during the day since he's nocturnal.
