I'd say easily, i run one on my 4x2x2 and is perfect as it has constant water passing through it I'd say its more effective than your standard heater at spreading the heat around,

yes waterproof encaps available and yes you need different encaps compared to t8, tulip leads are available (waterproof encaps with 1/3m leads on them) i prefer doing it myself though,

I run the 300w on my 4x2x2 and it works a treat. Accurate themostat and easy to hook up. Best thing is they dont need cleaning as you can see straight through thte thing so nothing can clog it...

SAE are the 'good' ones although i personally dislike them, just removed all of mine and replaced with ottos. I find they grew way too quick and became slightly agressive when they were larger also...
