Didn't have much luck with the Sterazin. Not only was it easy on the fish, but on the gill flukes as well. When I put the doseage up on Waterlifes advice it really damaged my fish!!!
As for the...

I use two e-heim canister filters, one each end, on a 6ft tank.
On one end I run an external heater, and a UV on the other one.
Canisters are easy to clean and service & I hhave had absolutely no...

Lovely looking Discus.
Q: Why did the female die?
Discus like very soft water, so the gourami's may not do too well. also, I think the gourami's can be quite savage at protecting their...

Did you check out if it's O.K. to treat with metro & protozin combined? Sometimes combining treatments can produce toxic by-prioducts & do more harm than good.
Your fish must have something brewing,...

I have a 4 ft. tank which has been set up for about two years now. I have noticed over time that the timber floor supporting the tank has moved a (little) bit. When I do water changes I notice the...

I'm a great fan of this site. A few problems while you fight off these low lifers is not going to deter me. If the site does go down, I will just try again later.

I have a spare one of those fluval surface skimmers. They work prettu well - would be willing to send it to you if you want. I was using these gadgets to remove film from the water surface, but now I...

I found a prolonged period at fairly low pH plus medication eventually fixed a persistant fluke problem.
Also, breathing from one gill could be due to other causes (eg. damaged gill from infection),...

Thanks Ben.
The unit has been working fine for about 12 months - I do think it needs a clean as the flow rate has reduced recently - attached to an e-heim canister which is in good condition - I've...

I've gone back to using kH generator. I disolve a teaspoon in a jug of aquarium water at water change time and slowly add it to the aquarium.
Even a little bit of kH will keep your pH at 7.0 to 7.1....

I've been running a hydore external heater for a while.
Now I find the water throughput is reducing and the heater dosen't keep the temp. as high as I would like - I'm having to keep turning it up a...

I reckon cardinals are the way to go.
I have 10 cardinals that are about 2 years old now, in with discus & a variety of catfish.
I had a recent "die off" where about 4 cardinals went belly up - one...

I have two pairs in my aquarium and at certain times the rivalry can become ferocious, resulting in scratches and dents for sure. Always looks dramatic, but they heal up very quick.
Glad to hear...

I want to do a fishless cycle, but I can't find a convenient source of ammonium. Superkmarkets used to sell it, but they all seem to have gone for cluody ammmonia, which has detergent in it.

Be very careful with rocks in aquariums. Sterlise by boiling, and avoid white rocks as they can really harden your water - consult lfs first.
Discus are so beutiful, noone will even notice the rocks...

You have certainly done a lot for this sick fish and the poor fella looks like he might not make it. This can be a sad fact of life. Sometimes the fish can sustain so much internal damage from...

Where did you get the non scratch pad from? If not from the lfs, then it could possibly contain chemicals from the manufacture process?

My solution - get some "flying foxes" (Epalzeorhynchus Kallopterus), not to be confused with the "Siameses flying fox". The distinguishing feature is that the dark stipe along the flying fox body...

It's very difficult to tell the sex of young discus. Once they get a bit older, however, the story changes. The males start to develop an elongated top fin, to the extent that they can have...
