Oh and the white plastic ring on the bottom of the heater can be taken off, its only put on there so that the heater doesnt move around in the box

Discus look great.
Id move your heaters further apart to get a better coverage.
What filter are you using? It shouldve come with a guard.

oh yes if youve got small juvies or fry that have grown big enough to move off of the parents slime coat then feeding heaps more regularly is needed. But for adult discus specially in a display tank...

i agree with jim a stable ph is very important. I would ask the seller what ph they have been bred in and try to align it more closely. 5.5 is quite low, that would be fine for wild caught but...

best way to test water temp is with the basic glass thermometer, they are always accurate and dont get issues of leaking/faults like digital ones.
