Hi Folks
Apparently my last login was 2006 so I've been away for a while. My son has gone off to uni and cycled out one of his marine tanks which I am turning over to a discus tank. It's busy...

I managed to pick up a Vecton at a local car boot sale for qurter the cost of the internet price so I now have a clarifier in teh main tank and steriliser in the 50g.
I agree with people here,...

Sorry Dr. V, only just got back to this thread...
I worm new arrivals on week 2 as a matter of course with wormer plus and then treat as necessary for any other symptoms that may occur and/or salt...

I put new arrivals into a QT tank for 2-3 weeks
Add a sacrificial fish to this QT tank with them for a further 2-3 weeks
If all is well I add them to the destination tank else I treat as required....

Just don't confuse quality with quantity!
Just kidding Mark, congratulations, seems like only yesterday you were a wiggler ;)

There are usually things you can try like reorganising the tank to force new territories to be established or remove the offending fish for a while but ultimately I agree with mcloughlin2 and you...

Bingo :-)
Dad doesn't seem too keen on the spot though, he keeps going over to the cone on the other side of the tank and giving it a quick sulky clean!

He is still hanging in there Peaches. Mum and dad are chasing him off as they have started cleaning the cone and unfortunately he is way to small and quick for me to catch.
He has been named...

I've seen methods to raise from eggs anbd I think LadyRed has posted one here somewhere... not sure I would be brave enough to try it though!

Your instincts sound spot on. I've had discus from home breeders before and they have invariably been passionate, knowledgable and communicative. I'd steer clear of anyone that wasn't.
Good luck...

There were quite a few left Ryan, only one brave enough to jump in the net though ;-)
Thanks LadyRed, he is kinda cute...my 6yr old was much more interested in 'his' new baby fish than daddies new...

I am getting 1:1 ratio from my 300gpd RO unit but point taken even then it is a lot of waste (I use mine to trickle in my pond)... if waste wasn't an issue remineralising would be. I think I would...

Yes Mark, he went into the net with mum and dad and is still swimming around merrily swapping from mum to dad for a feed.

I've done wormer plus so hopefully they are gone. Posted the pictures here and on the UKDA but Still haven't identified the critters.

It's a coincidence we've been talking about worms... just found these in my quarantine tank wriggling around the glass after a drain for a water change.

I picked up 2226 at the local boot sale a few weeks ago for £26 here in the UK, £13 for a gasket and I had an excellent bargain, runs like new and had new media with it :)

If Levisamol is anything like the wormer plus I use in the UK then I wouldn't be overly worried. The fish can go a very long time without food. Feed a little at a time and be sure to clean any...

I've just converted one of my tanks from black gravel to bare bottom... didn't realise the bottom would look like the surface of the moon after a few years use so I covered the bare bottom with a...

I used Kent R/O Right for a year or more. Now I remineralise with HMA filter water at 80% R/O to 20% HMA to give me a PH of 6.4 and a tds of 230.
Kent R/O definately does the job though. I used...

I think they are only totally safe if they are gamma erradiated. I don't think freezing alone is enough. Saying that I often feed Ruto which is non erradiated (to my knowledge)... hopefully Ladyred...

Some foods, plants and other fish can introduce worms by accident so I guess unless you are feeding dry food and keeping the environment locked down there is a chance of worms... there are two school...
