Thanks for that Phil, got a question how would you saftely reduce the ph of rainwater to ph 5.5 since there is hardly any hardness in it.
My rainwater is normally ph 7.0

I would treat the whole tank with white spot medication I've used " Aquamaster's Rapid White Spot Remedy" and it's very effective, not sure how much it does to plants you might have to remove the...

my house is only 2 years old and has a new HWS I'm going to give it a go and see what happens,only snag is my aging tanks are outside I'll have to get a plumber to install a hot and cold tap outside....

Have you tried treating with salt it can help with flukes and it's not harsh for the young fry. I normally add some salt to my grow out tanks to keep fluke under control helps with bacterial...

I would start off with good stock from a local breeder.
A bare bottom tank with a sponge filter and couple of air stones.
I normally set the temp on my grow out tanks to 31C lots of water changes...

HCL will drop the PH but to soften hard water you will need to filter with peat or RO machine.

I would give it a good wash and dry it out for a couple of days to be on a safe side. It doesn't take long to seed a sponge filter.

Good luck mate, I normally let them pratice in the community tank for a couple of times and then move them out to their own tank, that makes them better parents.

The Golden Snakeskin's look fine, some are a bit on the small side but growth rate looks normal, they look happy with the water conditions, clear eyes, no clamped fins.

we had a power blackout for 8 hrs and it was in the middle of winter, the main thing would be the Oxygen level in the tank, I had a couple of battery powered air pump's so it was fine, even my Disucs...
