I realise this post has been dealt with about 10 days ago but just thought I'd mention protozin. It treates ich, and does not harm filter bacteria. I have found it to be a godsend.
Hopefully...

I've always used a fluval with no problems. They are a bit tricky to take apart to clean but I can't say if that's different from an Eheim, as I've never used one. Anyway, I have a husband for just...

What about painting the tank back dark green? Anyone ever tried this?

I love the fishless cycle with ammonia, but it would only work if you were willing to "feed" the hospital tank with ammonia daily. This can seem like a waste of time - and ammonia - if 6 months...

Annie, this is beginning to get scary! lol
I resisted today - saw some gorgeous bunga rayas but said "NO". I kinda regret it though ... actually I am devastated! Must find room for another...

5 blue diamonds. But am sorely tempted to bring some super red melons home.

what's ironic about it is that the fancy carp are usually so easy for birds to spot they wouldn't last 10 minutes in the waterways - in fact, I always got nervous when I saw pelicans flying overhead...

When I was a kid my all-time favourite show was a Japanese (I think) dubbed karate series called "Monkey". Anyone remember that?

Thanks Annie! I thought they looked very much like yours (which are beautiful) :)

LOL the 800L tank sounds like it has a bigger floorplan than my first house did :)

Thank you all for not lecturing - especially as I already know the theoretical error of my ways!!
Maybe so, but then I might compromise the growth of the plants, which are a big part of the...

EWWwww! Yet, strangely fascinating.
Does the Worm Rid have any effect on plants, snails etc?
I imagine the siphoning the worm corpses out of a planted tank is a bit tricky - has anyone...

I like the various Law & Order series. ALso I was the hugest X-Files geek for the first 7 series, then gave up on it.
I also like the gardening and renovation shows on the Lifestyle Channel. Now...

What's the deal with worming as a preventative? I was told my kids had just been wormed before I bought them so assume they are for now at least worm-free.
Is worming discus generally...

Annie beat me to it! I was going to suggest that you do a manual harvest using a piece of zucchini left on the tank bottom overnight. I am about to implement this in my tank as the worms are...

At the crack of dawn I stumble downstairs to get some bloodworms out of the freezer for my beloved. That is their breakfast.
If I cannot be stuffed going downstairs they get a nice generous feed...

wow, I have kindred spirits :) Couldn't have put it better. I think my pH is 7.8. And 7.8 is where it will stay, cos these are the happiest discus I have ever kept.
You guys all do a real lot...

Sorry Lex, back to your question!
As I understand it you have an angel, black widows, gourami and a swordtail as well as 8 large discus in the one tank. How big is the tank, and can you give us...

I second what Scott said. I wouldn't keep these fish together, personally. If for no other reason than that I could not tolerate a $8 angel out-competing or stressing a $100 discus of the same...

do you mean "isn't" as bad? Because, it isn't :)
You can expect to have some nitrates in any tank, the idea is to keep them below a certain level. I used to aim for 20ppm when I kept the big...

I have no intention of showing my discus. I also have no real intention of breeding them because I can't be sure what they're bloodlines are and I suspect they are not pure blue diamonds (damned...

OMG those swords are HUGE! They look fantastic, as does the whole tank.
What are the dimensions of an 800L tank? the mind boggles...
