keeping a sump (standard 4 foot tank and the returns will be about 40mm below the overflow so about 80mm from the rim of the tank to the centre of the return pipe if that makes sense...

I just cant seem to keep neon or rummy nosed tetras alive. Decided yesterday to get a school of lemon tetras and so far so good. Might try neon's when my 4 footer is set up or even cardinals

I was told today that neons are hard to keep long term and was wondering if the term "soft" is a deserved reputation.

Hi there,
the returns are drilled into the back of the tank and unsure of return pressure yet still searching for a calculator that tells me what pump pressure I need

Hi there,
I found this formula for substrate
"length cm x width cm x depth (of substrate) cm / 1000 = liters.
10 x 10 x 5 = 500 cm2 / 1000 = 5l of substrate needed.

would it work to calculate it the same way you do for aquarium volume? once you know what depth you want?

Hi there,
does anyone know of a substrate calculator to work out what I need I plan on using ADA aqua soil if no calculator a method to work out how much I need

Hi there,
I was wondering whether to use a ball valve or to drill a hole in my return pipes to break the siphon to stop overflows in a power outage.

Hi there,
using this calculator http://www.reefcentral.com/calc/drain.php I worked out that my overflow should be 12.7 cm however I do not believe this will be big enough to hold both a durso...

are watts needed for t5's the same formula used for fluros? would 6x54watt t5's be enough/too much for a 4x2x2?
