How long hav you had the discus together in the same tank if its not long maybe the one hiding is just a little timid then the others and needs more time to settle in.

Your ph is perfect in fact i reckon there will be a lot of people that would love there ph to be that.
If your not breeding your fish at the moment I wouldnt worry about the hardness it only needs...

Just buy one that doesnt show any signs of the peppering coming but still doesnt mean it wont have some when its a adult maybe just less.

You should be able to move them when they go free swimming you can only try if not you know they'll have more so move the pair over to the new tank and wait and see what happens.

I have 2 male and 2 female in my tank and had no problem just make sure they have a couple of caves so they dont fight over one.

I think a lot of people do Ben I personally dont but my fish are all juvies and arent breeding yet I think the main reason people get them for is to soften the water for breeding purposes.

Yes you do chris as airating the water in a water aging barrel gets rid of chlorine it will not get rid of heavy metals and chloramines i just use it as the instructions say no more or less.

I have some of that plant as well and man does that stuff grow mine has grown so much in the last couple of months that one side of my tank is thick at the surface with this stuff does it ever stop...

I have a pretty powerful internal filter in my tank also I have it on the back wall but facing the side of the tank about 15 cm away so all the flow hits straight into the side of the tank and none...

I will have airstones in my tank anyway I think they are a necessity but if you raise temp or add meds you must def have a airstone.

Leave the 2 filters in with the pair and test your water when you get 0 ammonia 0 nitrites and a reading of nitrates your be fine to remove one but must keep an eye on your readings after you have...
