Young fish some times can be difficult to judge, but in short they do look slightly stunted.

thank you guys.
the hood does have a hood but it is a very tall hood. gives me about 7 inches of room maybe a foot from waterline.

Well if your fish is not eating there is cleary an issue. you will need to quarantine the fish and diagnose it.
keep a eye out for stringy feces. usually a "anorexic" discus means worms or "hex".

I don't think you need to worry at all- if shes laying most likely they are fine. sometime i females, not sure about males get a little breathy while breeding. so i have heard anyway.

Sounds like possible PH burns to me. You can burn fish with quick PH changes. I'm aware PH burns can cause such things as cloudy eyes, slime coat problems and or fin problems, and even breathing...
