No it was'nt Phil or Rodney, Its a breeder in Port Elliot he tells me he rarely lets discus rear their own fry as they make bad parents. I have to agree in most cases especially light coloured fish....

I asked Simon and he agreed but when I rang to say I was bring them in Sherie said they could'nt afford to buy discus. Uni's going great, like you said just hard to fit everything in....

I am all for the easiest way of doing things, this same breeder also uses a good quality fry food, not sure what it is but I am going to see him next week. So hope to pick his brains.

Someone I know takes the young away from the parents and handrears them. He has a wonderful sucess rate using (I've forgotton the name) a kind of bacteria. Heres what he does, takes half a cabbage...

Thanks Ben for your answer, I have tried peat now which does take the water down to 7.9 however I think that the sodium biphosphate sounds good. Where did you buy it from?

I have read the recent posts on the use of peat, so I am hoping it might solve my problem with the water after leaving for a couple of days the PH is up on 8.5 - 9 which means I have to lower the PH...

Chris transfer as much water as you can from the community tank into the breeeding tank and try and move the babies as Ben said its a risk but at least they have a chance.

As the others have said it depends where you are, here in Adelaide I get paid by the LFS $23.00 for 5 - 6 cm red turks. Thats the wholesale price in Adelaide. They retail for around $50.00

If they want to breed IMO nothing will stop them, I have even taken out the terracotta pot and they lay the eggs on the back of the tank.

I can't beleive it yesterday, I was trying to make more tank room, so I moved some slightly younger fry (4 weeks) in with 7 week old fry. OMG I have never seen anything like it they were like a pack...

Mac they were'nt $12.00 heaters, they are the stainless steel ones with the out side controls, I paid $50.00 each. The irony of it was I replaced all my heaters on the tanks outside before winter set...
