Babies and juv's i would change daily for babies and every 3 day for juv's , but adults, it really all depends on your equipment and amount of fish.

Well planted discus tanks is a little different, to say a bare bottom tank ! , simply because you have no plants , Discus will adjust easier than a plant will,in a true planted aquarium . But in...

Vinegar, should do the job Red :)
Just plain old white vinegar :) and leave it for 30 min "do not be shy with the amount of vinegar either;) SLAP IT ON"
