Best bright color substrate for Discus Tank with plants on drift wood

Hi Team, I am planning to add bright color substrate( very thin layer) in my Discus tank ( L:4feet , D:1 and half feet) with 1 bog wood , Can you suggest if i can use perlite or any better option

Hi ... I use white silica sand... it works well and my discus quite like it.
