Hi guys I am plannin on getting some discus soon but I am plannin to keep it in my garage with all my other tanks and I was wondering if discus need alot of light? I am not planning to keep plants or anything like that.

Discus come from shaded waters Matt, so they don't need a lot of light. If you have natural daylight coming in through a window or a skylight, that may well be enough.

They do need enough light to be able to see their food, and perhaps look after their eggs, but that doesn't mean bright lighting.

I find out if the tank light is dimmer than the room light, the discus are easily spooked. You need to at least have more than the room light.

What is the ideal spectrum of light, ie which bulb, would be the best for a discus tank :?:
