i have seen many posts about feeding but i was hopeing to get a few extra questions answered

How many grams of food do you feed per fish? (we will need an indication of fish lenght to compare eating habits correctly) i have heard of people feeding what they can eat in 5 min but how much food is that?

how often do you feed these servings?

When I am working they get fed 2-3 times a day (depending on what shift I am on)

On days off, 3-5 small feeds per day... (small pinch of food, varied each time)

or for the main meal (evening) 1 x Bloodworm cube and a pinch of ColorBits.

The way i do it is just feed a very small amount and continue too till some dont seem intrested anymore or less enthusiastic.

I do this probably 2-3 times a day, more on weekends.

thats excatley what i do, but i was more curious to know how much we call a pinch, how much is "till they lose enthusthiasm"?

i was hoping to work out what amount of food a fish eats in a year!

i just don't have the digital scales to do it at home myself

i feed a lot of small meals each day. in one tank i have 6 adult discus which get a cube of blood worms, a cube of brine shrimp and a spirulina wafer for breakfast. then i feed about 5 cubes of beefheart for the rest of the day....one at a time, every couple of hours. i also throw in a good pinch of dried granule food after each w/c.

in my other tank with juvies, they get the same variety just a bit less cuase they can't eat it all

but how much does that weigh?

i think i might have to go out and by myself a set of digital scales.

Hey,

Hmm.... isn't it dangerous to overfeed your discus? I read sometimes overfeeding sometimes make their stomach painful.

These usually happen too goldfish too

That is why only feed them a pinch...

every trace of food is gone withing 30-45 seconds

Plus with all the commotion getting some food, they burn off the previous snack...

lol

ok, for me...

1 Pinch = 1/8 to 1/4 of a teaspoon depending in the food type

1/8 for granules

1/4 for flakes

Hello Everybody:

I've 12 discus in my tank. They are of 3-4 in. size. I feed them lean meat twice a day. Each time a lump of an inch size. They all finish it off within no time.

I feel if I feed anymore, the water quality may deteriorate.
How much should I feed ?

TIA,
___

Welcome to the forum nag - hope you enjoy your time with us. You could feed them more often if you wish, the main thing is to make sure they don't leave uneaten food laying around on the bottom of the tank to pollute the water. You could quite safely feed three or four times a day with a one inch lump of food, or feed dry food for the other meals. Just make sure they eat it all in about five minutes. Anything left means you are feeding too much. Discus love small meals fed to them often.

Thanks Merrilyn.

Out of the 4 feeds I give, only the first and last are lean meat.
The others, once TETRA BITS and once Frozen BWs.

Inspite of this feeding pattern, Their size has remained same (moreorless) since past 10 weeks. It seems they are stuck at 4". :)
Any reasons?

keep the water clean, lots of changes

vac up the poop as often as your time allows

and watch the babies grow

if you can feed them a similar BH mix do it four times a day, what they can eat in less than 5mins

i feeding of a different food once a day

5 feeding evenly spaced over 10-12 hours

PERFECT
