Hi all,

What would you recommend as a minimum tank size for a planted Discus tank? I've been told 180L is the smallest size which is about the size of tank I can afford at the moment, I could maybe stretch to a 240L but then I run into major space issues in my living room.

Does buying a new house so I can buy a new tank sound a bit extreme?

Hehe a very good point, I've seen some pics of a 10ft tank here, one day I will have a house big enough for a tank like that. Back to the orginal question does 180L sound too small, its about 48 gallons?

Thats encouraging news Nathan, I was begining to think I was going to have to give up on the idea of a discus tank for now! How many discus you got in the 150L tank? I've been told odd numbers are best to avoid fighting so I had been thinking of five discus for my 180L but I can't decide if thats too many as I'm not used to keeping fish that size!

Won't take long for a 180 liter to fill up with plants !!

This was one of mine 200 liter had to trim every 2 weeks LOL.

Hmmm I may be showing off a little

Hehe, thats a nice tank you've got there mark. Filled up with plants is how I like my tanks, I'm going to add the discus while the plants are still small to try and stop them from hiding too much!

You are of course right Mark, it wont take long for a 200litre tank to fill up with plants, both my 150 litres are chokka block full up now.and i dont have the heart to pull out plants..............I'm sure there's still fish in there somewhere

Blyxa Japonica....

I lost them all when I went OS the other plants shaded them out...

Also they don't seem to fair well above 28 degrees..

Can't wait to get my hands on some more...

That clump was about 100 plants and took about 18 months to create.

It was a challenge to say the least !!

i have 2 discus in my 125L tank, and some tetras , and a Black ghost, and 2 african butterfly fish.
driftwood and plants.

discus laied eggs, so that shows that they are doing really fine in there :)

Hmm thats interesting, I thought according to common discus lore that you need to keep them in bigger numbers that 2 more like 4-6. Have you always had just the two discus? How did you make sure you'd get a bonded pair?
