why would my sump be growing some sort of whiteish gel like alge?

seems to be growing around the heater and pumps and other objects in the sump and breaks up into tiny flakes if disturbed.

cleaned the sponge on the pump in the sump and stirred it through my tank, looked like some sort of cloud of goo. filter wool cleaned it up pretty quick but freaked me out

what is it?

it is just detrious (waste)

some form of bacteria...

I have it in my sumps and it grows in some of my HOB filters...

nothing to worry about.

Yeah i get a gel like thing in my internal filter and when i turn the pump back on after water changes it floats out of the filter into the tank. Kind of heart breaking when you have just cleaned every speck out of the tank, but i just do another quick go at it.
Doesnt seem to bother the fish though. Even had a BD try and eat it once, spat it out though.

i know you've said we won't get banned form the forum just from stating an opion proteus

but if i stated my opion on what i think this looks like you would ban me.

glad to hear its natural, just a shame you only notice it when you clean the tank.
