Is an air pump neccessary for a planted tank? I know that an air pump would drive out co2 from the water, but doesn't the plants need co2. So, would you guys say that an air pump is or isn't necessary for planted tank?

What do you mean ? Yes air pump will drive out CO2 from the water, especially when you using CO2 setup, and plants need CO2, so dont use it in planted tank.

Definately! I keep mine without air bubbles, no problem at all.

Couldnt you put the air pump on a timer and set it to go off at night when the plants consume oxygen?
