Yep, these are pots I've obtained from a LFS in Eastwood.

Kev, these photos are your stockpile in the farm? Or shop in HK?

Mike,

A dozen?? You're setting up an apisto breeding factory?

Or are you planning to spoil them by offering several pots to choose from?

Are there any potential problems with using terracotta in an aquarium? When I buy a pot from a gardening store I generally boil it for an hour or so and then plonk it in the tank. Recently a few people on other forums have warned against using terracotta products obtained from gardening stores because they're made differently now and are no longer safe. Anyone know anything?

Nothing wrong with variety. I have 3 choices of cave in a 30lt tank for my pair. A ceramic log, a half flower pot and a few pieces of slate that I didn't realise I'd made into a cave.
They didn't even look at the two most obvious and chose to dig out the slate.
Looks natural though

I've heard problem with terracotta pots, from memory it has something to do with some kind of glaze/chemical certain pots are made with. Which has certain toxic chemical in them and will leach into the water over time.

I normally go with ones found at LFS or pick up second hand from others (those who has given up the hobby).

Like catfishbone, I just rinse and toss them in.

Get the unglazed pots. Every shop selling apistogramma in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan has one of these terracotta pot in their tank.

Kev,

Those photo are from HK? Which shop?

My last visit in April 05 didn't see any shop that's like one in the pic. Is it one of those that you have to go upstair?

There are specialist shops in other areas other than Tung Choi, but most are on upper floors in some obscure building.

Thanks Kev,

This one is at Kwun Tong.

I'll have to collect a list of places to visit on my next trip (but still need to spend a day at Tung Choi St).
