Pendant light stand

Hi all!

I am looking into getting a pendant light but would like to get a stand made rather than hang it from the ceiling.

Does anyone have a pic or plans for a metal pendant light stand?

jho51e, I am in the process of looking at getting one added to a 5 or 6ft cabinet. I think the best way to do it is to have 2 extensions rises up the back of the aquarium braced to equally spaced vertical supports and have a braced right angle at the top.

I have got pics somewhere of another tank set up this way... let me look for them

You certainly can.

That same stand now supports a triple HQI AquaStarlight now.

I am in no way handy so do you know what type of metal and the diameter I will need?? Will it be the hollow type or not?

and should i find out the weight of the light first before getting this made?

may i ask, if you are inexperienced why are you working with metal, over wood?

Metal will need to be welded etc, whereas wood is just PVA glue + screws, plus a sand and lacquer?

That said hollow square steel will be more then strong enough, with three arms, to support a light fitting... But IMO i'd stick to wood, if i were inexperienced?

actually i am not the one going to do it... i am going to find someone who can do it for me...

i did think of wood but it would look more bulky than metal...

I think if done the right way, and stained or painted it would look fine.

The images I added above arent the best looking in regards to finish etc, but it gives a general idea of what can be done.

even with metal, the tubing will need to have some size about it, especially in regards to fastening it to the cabinet

I would have to find some nice looking pendant light coverings or the demestic aurthority will have words with me

Hi Proteus, have you been able to find out the weight of the light?
It is an Aquamedic Aquastarlight T5 150cm:

Cant find the weight anywhere.

I am sure based on other brands that it will be around the 25kg mark at least

I think it all comes down to how do u want it to look as well you caoul add all sorts of fancy stuff to the frame so it doesent spoil the look of your tank

I would recommend any steel fabrication workshop, they are dirt cheap compared to anythign you can buy fromt eh aquarium trade, I say this as i have had plenty of experience with metal fabrication, its amazing what you can get made cheap. I would look at stainless steel its not as expensive as you might think and just tell the fabricator you need it to hold up 25kg, i would think something like 1.2mm 25x25 RHS would be more then strong enough for what you are after .

thanks Seaview! shall go and look for a steel fabrication shop with stainless steel and ask if they have 25x25 RHS... :-)
