Full front pic would be good to start and what hardscape you have to go in.
What do you want it to look like?

Ducky!

here you go,, mate ive thought about many variations,, sandy bottom, drift wood plain... going heavy on the grassy look.

Iim kind of tired of the simple drift wood and one plant tied to it look.

I'm up for all ideas, nothing is concrete so I hope this picture helps!

In terms of fish at this stage my two large fire ruby discus will be the only residents. I really want to spoil them. If they spawn some of there offspring will be living with them. If not maybe several dozen cardinals and thats it.

Having rounded glass it really makes it difficult ( for me ) to work out how you landscape it so it looks good from all angles.

what do you think?

going heavy on the grassy look.
I take it that you have the gear to have a grassy foreground.

I like my Glosso,Those rounded corner's make it a little hard, Need to think about it for a bit.

Okay,Here we go.
Two bit's of wood,Each one coming from the back corner to the center but not touching on a angle,Some java moss would be good covering for the wood,Behind the wood in the back corner 2 large swords.

For the foreground i would say hair grass i thought about glosso i just don't think it would work,The grass in front of the woodall the way across to the other side.

Mid ground,I'm thinking babytear's,pearling grass,This should start halve waybehind the wood towards the center.

Back ground,Rotala mac, even some pogo stelleta In the center,Lud acruata?spelling, These plants are mainly in the center between the gap the wood has made.

It's alot harder to write out,I hope you get the jist,The idea is the draw the eye toward's the center more and having the sword's in the back should play to much drama's with the distortion you get from the bend in the tank,Well in my head it would look good :)

I have let my gold fish know what you said and his face tells the story !!

Well I don't want him to know how much he cost, as he reads this forum.

Also he wants to keep his personal life intact.

He just mentioned that this thread has gone a little bit off topic.

But he did say that I should mention to you that he doen't like sunken ships ( in discus tanks ) as they are too far removed from what fish would see in the wild.

By the way his name is Mr Donald Trump !!

So with that I must say,

Cheers,

Mark and the Don

Ok,

It sounds like, Nick you may not be interested in going the high light, heavy plant look.

One thing that concerns you is the curves on the sides. One way you may be able to have them work for you, is to place some smooth large river stones around the rear and sides of the tank.

Obviously these will have to be tested for suitability. I would look around at some land scape places.

I think some subtle ( not bright rocks would be good ) olives, greys, browns for example. Working within the same colour schemes smaller rocks could be used towards the front in order to take full advantage of the depth.

I would go for a totally black background.

For lights I would be inclined to go with subtle lighting.

At the rear of the tank some drift wood, placed into the rocks with java fern attached may work and some Anubias species with round leaves may also be attractive and work without substrate or intensive lighting.

Not sure how practical all this would be.

Again the attached picture is not photo shop  .

Cheers,

Mark ( cut me some slack guy's, it's almost 2am !! )
