Grow out Tank??

Would it be possiable to keep 2 or 3 Juvi discus in a 20g for about 6 months as a grow out tank until I get my 125g?? I would just do a barebottom with some drift wood.

Two or three fish would be fine in that size tank. I have even had 6 juveniles in a similar tank.

The key to keeping the fish healthy is frequent large waterchanges, and a fully cycled filter.

If you can manage that, there should be no problems.

So 2 discus would be ok? Will they get along?

you will have to see how they go in regards to fighting

if they start to fight you may need some more fish :wink:

what filter would you go with on a 20g with 2 juvies? Also is a w/c a day needed? or is it possiable to do one big one a week? just wanted to know before I move forward with this setup. I really just want it as a holding tank for about 6 months until I get my big tank. Any advice would be great!

Maybe a small canister or a larger HOB would be good

i think water changes should be done two to three times per week

daily is not nessecary, weekly is to long :wink:

Would you go barebottom or a substrate with plants??

Bare bottom will be easier to clean, but a few plants will help keep the nitrates down, and give the fish some hiding places.

Just be prepared to gravel vac at each water change.
