New plant precautions?

I want to put a couple of new plants in my aquarium. What precautions, if any, should I take to avoid transporting disease?

i no longer keep planted tanks, but when i did i always checked for snails, small parasites and generally the nasty algaes

I have always just put the plant straight in,Never had a problem.
Some people use the bleach dip 10-20:1 water-bleach that should see any nasties gon,e don't dip them for very long,When i have done in the past i just left it for about 30-40 sec at most.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I think I will do as I have always done, which is to wash and soak the new plants in fresh tap water fo 20 minutes or so.

By the way, ever since I put some "flying foxes" in my aquarium, I have had little or none of that black hairy algae - the guy at OAFI suggested this and it seems to be working.

i would suggest ottos ova flying foxes, cause when flying foxes get the taste for bloodworms and flake, thety dont eat as much algae, well thats wat i have found

What is an OTTO? Can you get me a picture of same?
