I found this on another forum which most visit but i thought id post it here for those of you who havent seen it yet. Basically its a ROUGH guide on what 2 strains or more are needed to create a certain strain. Ie, A+B=C

Well anyway -

Breeder's lineage
Strains - Breed true?
Crossings

Penang Pigeon - Yes
Thailand Pigeon cross with light colored Red Turquoise.

Penang Golden - Yes
Yellowish Red Turquoise (light colored) cross with Red Albino.

Red Angel - Yes
Reddish Brown Discus cross with Alenquer. The offspring from this crossing is then bred with Penang Gold.

Blue Snakeskin - Yes
Blue Turquoise with fine striations crossing with Cobalt Blue. The first offspring from here form the original blue snakeskins.

Green Snakeskin - Yes
Greenish Blue Snakeskin cross with Green Turquoise possessing fine body striations.

Red Snakeskin - Yes
Green or Blue Snakeskin with reddish base cross with Red Turquoise possessing fine body lines. The more reddish base discus from this offspring are selected out for sibling cross breeding.

Blue Diamond - Yes
Cobalt Blue cross with Blue Turquoise. Selected offspring from this crossing (especially those with solid blue colored body) are crossed with albino discus to get the red eyes blue diamonds with solid blue body.

Tangerine - Yes
Penang Pigeon crossing with selected orange based pigeon. The offspring from this crossing, especially those with orangey body coloration and few body striations are selected out for further crossings.

Tangerine Gold - 50%
Tangerine cross with Penang Gold. Selected fishes from this offspring, especially those with solid deep orangey red coloration and possessing few body striations are crossed back with the Penang Golden.

Red Royal Blue - Yes
Blue Turquoise cross with Red Turquoise.

Red Jackets - Yes
Red Pigeon cross with Blue Ghost.

Spotted Golden - Not proven
Wild Spotted Green (Tefe) cross with Penang Golden. The selected offspring from this crossing, especially those with prominent spots are selected for crossings to produce golden discus with spots.

Green Jade - Yes
Cobalt Blue cross with Green Turquoise to produce first offspring of Green Jade. Selected first offspring Green Jade is then crossed with Green Turquoise to get the second offspring. Specially selected first offspring are crossed with selected second offspring to produce the final Green Jade.

Fire Bird - Not proven
Red Brown cross with Marlboro Red. Selected offspring from this crossing is crossed back with the Red Brown to produce the Fire Birds.

Ocean Green - Not proven
Selected Blue Diamonds (especially those with greenish coloration) are crossed with Green Turquoise. Selected offspring from this crossing are crossed back with Green Turquoise to get the solid colored Green Diamonds or Ocean Greens.

I thought it was very intresting but then you have to have a fair amount of different fish to work with and creating a strain could take years.

This is another intresting read from the same forum with the same purpose i have left there names in as all credit is due to them.

Let's say if we take two types of discus and crossed, the percentage of either one that hits more than 50% is the dominant one.

Dominant genes-( pigeon,white,ghost )
Any cross with pigeon almost all the offspring will inherit the black pigments hence we term pigeon as very dominant in passing the black pigment. As for the white it's the reverse,if you cross it with other discus not much of anything from the other discus turns out. The white are dominant in not having any color and pattern incorparated in the F1 crossed

Weak gene-Golden
Golden are the weakest gene in the discus pool. If you cross it with any strains you would probably get 85% of the other strain's gene and only 15% from the golden's gene in the F1. If you want to create a goldensnake( gold base ) you have to cross the F1 back with the golden again(choose the 14bars)and repeat till F3 before you can get a good looking goldensnake.

Unstable genes-any discus with snakeskin gene
Snake skin are mutation from turquoise and this strain can never be fixed hence we term it unstable because if you cross snakeskin with snakeskin, spottedsnake with spottedsnake you will get two types of offsprings the 14bars(snake type) and 9bars(throw back)

Recessive gene-Spotted
Let's say you have a pair of define spotted discus(leopard,R.S.G.spotted snake) you crossed it and produced F1 with beautiful spots than you crossed the F1 with F1 the F2 will still attain beautiful spots, but as you go on about F4 you will notice that the red spots starts to merge and join into red lines, this is what we term as recessive the more you crossed(in breeding)you loss it's potency of spots. To remedy this you have to cross back with a prominent spotted one.
