I have just stumbled over the "Amazon garden" so I thought I would share this.....

I moved my VAL from the rear and corner of my tank and planted it up the middle. This made an artificial wall and sectioned off my tank in two halves, whilst still looking OK. My agressive fish is now happy as he just didn't like any trespasses into his area (which was the entire tank !). Then he owned half the tank and my other discus are free to swim on the other side of the VAL. pretty good ha ! 2 months later all discus co-habitate very well and happy to swim through the val wall to go visiting. I could take the val out from the middle of the tank now however have gotten used to it. Although during the day the discus now swim freely thoughout the tank. However at night they go back to their respective sides..maybe its just like me always sleeping on the right side of the bed :)
.
The PIC shows only the left hand side of the tank you can see the val wall on the right.

what kind of Val do you have.... is it the Giganta or what??? I think one kind of VAL is a lower light requiring VAL.... this is the one I want... but thanks :)

Most of it is "thin val" 1/4" leaf width...I also hvae a couple of thivker pices that are 3/4" width leaves. It grows crazy.

I need to do a total replant of my tank soon, however considering going a sand substrate.

full width pic of tank so you get a better idea....

I'm lookiing for ideas on how I can stop the dominate 3-4 Discus I have, from bullying the other 4. They share a 4ftx18x18 commuinty tank with some thin Val to help separate the tank. I find that after a couple of months a weaker fish slowly reduces it's feeding, then darkens, then it's a fight to keep it alive. Temp constant at 28C
Any thoughts?

I have lost fish to this as well. In fact I have one "big" turq that I put in my tank and she has not come out for 9 days...I'm affraid she will starve herself. She does not get picked on either.

I cannot answer your question....Needs a female that may understand these complex social behaviours

I got the red turq from a private seller when she was small, and he was closing down his tank.
