View Full Version : Internal UV Sterilizer?

Over the last few months they has been a fair amount of talk on UV sterilizers. I have just ordered one of these:

AA Internal UV Sterilizer 9 Watt
http://www.aquaticlifeaquariums.com.au/

as i would like to trial on a tank of discus.
they seem a lot more $$$ than the external ones that attach to the outflow of a cannister filter but then a cannister filter is not needed.

If anyone has one/used one or knows about them i would love to hear about it!

Thanks in advance,

Ben

Being that it is low voltage (I would assume no Ballast) I would say the UV spectrum wouldnt be that great. (I could be wrong)

ive been using U/V for about 6 months now on one tank and found it to be of no significant value.

HOwever the true test will be ( i think ) is when i use it on a fry tank. im not sure if the results will be diffrent in terms of survival rates and so on.

Ok Parcel arrived in the mail today!
Looks interesting! Says on the instruction suitable up to a 200 litre tank, I am using it in a standard 4 foot tank.
The tank has a large breeding pair of Blue diamonds and aprox 50+ 2/3 cm fry.

Also has a large sponge filter.
Will see what happens and hopefully i will not have the same problem that happened to my ocean green fry!

another alternative uv sterilizer is the turbo twist 3x. it can be utilized in the aquarium or hang on back and is powered by a powerhead if hung on. it works for aquariums up to 125 gallons and runs about US100 dollars. im ordering one soon

I ordered mine from singapore, it is a 240v model

Well after buying the 9 watt internal Uv i am quite happy with it so i also bought the 24 watt UV.

So far i am very happy with them except for one small thing.
The sponge on the intake seems to get clogged and need to be rinsed once per day otherways no water passes through the UV light.

I highly recommend this unit for those that do not have an exteral filter.

Also, i have sent email's about the globes, so they are available and will be getting a price on the globes soon.

Thats great news Ben, these Uv's are really good!
one question though, how much are we looking at for the globes? both the 9 watt and the 24 watt.

cheers,

Ben

Great Pic up ladyred!!

so far these Uv's are great and have worked a treat!
As 95% of my tanks just have a sponge filter and i dont have a dozen more external filters these Internal uv's work well as they have there own power head to operate.

I put the 24 watt Uv on one of my 4 foot tanks and within 3 hours the water was clearer than cystal clear!

Highly recommended these units! and even better that the globes are easily available.

Cheers,

Ben
