if i want to set up a breeding tank can i use a cannister filter or not also hows the best why to go about settting one up from start to finish thanks everyone. :o :o

It's best to keep the spawning tank as simple as possible.

You can use a cannister filter, but the flow is a little strong, and creates too much of a current in the tank unless you cover the intake pipe with a sponge to prevent small fry from being sucked into the filter, and using a spray bar to diffuse the return water.

The simplest method is probably a sponge filter, previously cycled by hanging in a mature tank for two weeks prior to putting it in the breeding tank. It will still give you good biological filtration, but the water current will not be enough to distress even the youngest fry.

Other than that, all you need is a breeding cone, and daily water changes.
