I Want to try on a guinea pig discus, formalin to treat for gill flukes.
As it seems these days prazi just is not cutting the mustard with flukes!

Are you using pure Formalin or 37-40% formalin. Make sure your wearing a good pair of gloves when using this medication as it is very carcinogenic to say the least. I would be using metro rather than wasting your time with Formaldahyde, if your overdose the fish you will cause it's skin to peal or even just kill it outright within a few hours.

Hi CKY,
i have heard and read that it is real bad stuff, i even bought a chemical mask so i dont breath in any fumes!
I will trial it on a guinea pig discus so i will be able to moniter any bad affects.
Does metro treat well for flukes?
I have been doing a fair bit of research and 37% formaldahyde seems like the best cure against flukes.
I would like more advise if you could help me or anyone else,

Cheers,

Ben

Try to use formalin in a bath routine. A short bath (a few hours) or long bath (up to 3 days) can help but if it fails I would turn to Metro, if that fails well we can talk about that later. Have you any photos you could post of some of the affected fishies for me ?

As I mentioned in another post unconventionally you can use Metro for Gill Flukes. I've mainly used it in aquaculture for Australian Bass. I would recomend treating with formalin first and if fails remove fluke fish into a treatment tank and dose 1000mg per 100grams of food. As a general addition to the tank it won't do much, perhaps slow the infection but with food has proved to work with a few international discus breeders I chat to, personally I haven't tried it with my discus as I am new to keeping discus and haven't come across this problem-touch wood

Thanks again CKY thats great advise!
Flukes are such a big problem with discus, Even though it is not generally fatal to adult discus but young, it can be disarstarious!
