Ah, just felt like putting these up...

Would make excellent tankmates for your discus. ;) Trouble is they're not readily available in Aust.

I saw these on my travels.... P.motoro and P. schroederi (flowwer ray)

.. ah yes, but not these.

Actually, FW stingrays do make good tankmates with discus. I've seen a pic of a huge tank with a P.leopoldi (about 50cm diameter!) with a whole school of wild discus. Awesome display.

FW stingrays don't suck on discus. They leave anything that doesn't fit in their tiny mouth's alone.

Problem with Rays is that they are wickedly tough to acclimate, VERY finicky eaters, and over as much as 50% of the specimens imported never make it to sale

Never mind the fact that they need a tank with a large footprint.

Now with all that said.......

I know several hobbysits that have taken the plunge into stingray keeping, and not a single one of them would keep anything else.
They really do have tons of personality.

A LFS in Perth has a pair in their display tank. They have given birth more than once. Apparently they are not difficult to breed. Another LFS has one of the babies for sale a couple of weeks ago. Expensive though.

They are live bearers.
