I run at least 2 heaters in all my tanks - as Murphy's Law says a heater will die on a cold evening when there is no hope of getting a replacement - at least with 2, if 1 dies the 2nd make have to work really hard for a while & temp may drop a bit - but at least it shouldn't get too cold & fish start freezing.....

I also use thermometers with max / min settings so if water gets too hot or too cold it starts beeping to alert you.

Chris,
It can be a good idea to keep a spare heater on board just incase...

Specially that winter is almost upon us!

Hi Chris

The thermometer is from Resun - here is a link from Age of Aquariums

http://www.aquariumproducts.com.au/prod805.htm

They work really well (until the fall in the tank that is - then they don't work at all :@)
