Those cones with the lip on them are great. I like the plastic ones too, but the clay ones, being heavier are a better choice for my bigger pairs.

i made one with terra cotta pot base and a small length of pvc pipe with a cap on the end. works great and cost bugger all. the most expensive thign was the pvc glue but i have now used it about 10 times for many tank things and i would not have even gone through 1/10 of the tin. one tine of pvc glue would do 100 tank related jobs at least and the rest of the materials are as cheap as chips.

i had a large breeding cone that i purchased and the only thing the discus did was swim around it for 2 years! hahhaha

yeah a peice of pvc pipe siliconed to a small slate slab 4inchx4inch base works great,to easy to make,if your worried it still might get pushed just fill the pvc pipe with marbles/gravel.

here is the one i have just after i put it in the tank.....

notice how they prefered to lay eggs on that glass.... they now only ever spawn on the pvc now which is great

it was in the pvc pipe section.... don't know what it is called

the pvc pipe just sits in it and it is glued to the pot base
